Dhaka-- (UNB) – Some 800 tons of dates donated by the government of Saudi Arabia will be handed over to the World Food Programme (WFP) here today (Wednesday).

The handing over ceremony will be held at 11 am at the WFP office, IDB Bhaban, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.

Ibrahim Al-Romijan, representative of the Saudi Ministry of Finance, will formally hand over the dates to Dr Pieter Dijkhuizen, representative of the WFP in Dhaka.

The dates will be distributed to the flood-affected people in the districts of Jessore, Satkhira and Jhenidah through Union Parishad and other local institutions.

The UN organisation has already been implementing a Tk 170-crore emergency food assistance project for the flood affected poor people in the southwest region.
